My Review

I don’t know whether this rating reflects more about me than it does the book or not.

It was well enough written I suppose. I didn’t mind the time I spent with the book. I’m not typically a mystery reader, but as a lifelong reader, I feel like I’m pretty good at deducing things and figuring out the ins and outs of many plots.

This? It kind of felt like a series of events taped together to conveniently support the facts behind them. Which I guess is kind of a requirement when the timeline can change on a whim and loops endlessly. But I found myself frustrated by it when reading it as a mystery. Instead, I told my brain it was kind of a timeloop thriller, and that seemed to quiet the brain weasels and let me enjoy it.

As a sort of “brain candy” casual read that I don’t expect to think about too much, it was a solid read. But it’s not the sort of thing that I’d gravitate to intentionally or re-read.

‘Well, what else would you call a second chance?’ she asks. ‘You don’t like the man you were. Very well. Be somebody else. There’s nothing stopping you, not anymore. As I said, I envy you. The rest of us are stuck with our mistakes.’
